++ Added October 28, 2003 ++

The third DVD volume for the U.S. edition of the Saiyuki anime comes with a poster for Dokugakuji, Gojyo's older brother.

Meanwhile, Volume 4 comes with a cool personality quiz! Fun to take for people who aren't so familiar with the Saiyuki universe yet. ;D

Site News

It's been a while since the last update! Since then a lot of things have happened. Minekura's official site, Nitro, has moved (thanks for the heads up, Opersai! ^_^), and the first episode of the Saiyuki Reload anime has been released in Japan!

I'd like to apologize to the contributors whose works did not appear in this update. I reformatted my hard disk and while it's embarrassing to admit, I've misplaced some of the contributions that I received during the quiet months of August and September.

I would appreciate it greatly if you guys could resend your contributions. They will certainly appear in the next update. Arigatou gozaimasu~!

What else...

While changing servers, I lost my database information, so the contents of my old guestbook were not saved. -_- Sorry about that. Yes, it sucks and I don't ever want it to happen again.

So I'm going to put up a non-database driven guestbook, but it will have to wait until the next update. Right now that page is under construction.

Also, I've changed my email address. Effective today, please mail me here. The old preyfal one is no longer checked regularly.

I probably won't be updating weekly, as I used to, but I'll still try to. Updates will be announced on saiyuki_yaoi, as well as my Livejournal.

I still welcome fan art and new fan artists, and am still putting up stuff in the image gallery from time to time. However, it may be a while before I update the fan fiction section again. I'm being kept busy right now and I'm not reading a lot of Saiyuki fanfiction anymore. I'm not writing a lot either.

But there are still good fanfics to recommend, and it's not easy to quell the desire to find and share them with other Saiyuki fans. So please check back regularly.

Last but not the least, thank you for your continued patronage! The Saiyuki love lives on :)

The second DVD was released June 10th. It has the same features as the first one (dual languages, clean opening and closing, cultural notes and sketches, five (!) episodes).

Another mini- poster was included; this time it had a rather interesting "Character Relationship Chart" (no mention of their past lives. Mainly pictures with arrows labled "Brother/ Sister" or "Student/ Pupil".)

The American dialouge is following the original script better, especially with episodes 6 and 7.

ADV has also decided that the Merciful Goddess (Kanzeon) should have a british accent. Kinda odd to hear the first time, 'specially when she's yelling at Gojyo ("You with the hair and plenty of spare blood!! Get your ass over here now!")

A few times in the 5 episodes the (colorblind?) translators refer to Gojyo's hair color as purple.

++ Added June 5, 2003 ++

The recently released DVD of the American dubbed version includes the following:

• the first five episodes of the anime series
• a free t- shirt (only with the limited edition. XL, navy blue, and the front has a strange pentagram which may symbolize the Five Sutras. The back has our four main men looking adorable as usual.)
• a mini poster (sketches of each of the Sanzo-tachi, with short bios)
• production sketches (mainly Sanzo. The Japanese notes were translated, though.)
• historical notes (a short overview of the original legend)
• opening and ending sequences, without text credits

It seems the American dub also changed some of the dialogue. Here is a particularly humorous example from the second episode, where Gojyo and Goku were arguing about "respecting elders":

Gojyo: (after drinking some of the beer) Goddamnit, this one's hot. Goku, get me another beer.
Goku: Get yer own beer, jerkoff!
Gojyo: Okay, you're gonna get me another beer before I take this can and shove it up your whiny little ass, ya got that?!?
Goku: You just try it and see what happens, you shithead!!
Gojyo: Oh yeah??!!
Goku: Yer just lookin' for an excuse to touch my ass, aren't ya?!?!?
Sanzo: (unenthused)Oh, please...
Gojyo: You little fag! Don't project yer fantasies on me!!!
Goku: Alright, that's it!! Pull over, I'm takin' him out!!!!!
Sanzo: (really pissed) You're little unrequited love affair is starting to get on my nerves!!! Get a room!!!!
Sanzo: (satisfied at the silence) I thought so. Thanks.
Hakkai: Oh my, it's awful quiet back there. Are you two making out??
Gojyo: Shaddup Hakkai.
Goku: Yeah, shaddup.
