FAN FICTION - freedom in a box
** updated: May 17, 2003 **
Important warning: The links below lead to works of fiction that deal with mature themes, such as violence, swearing, and explicit homosexual activity. If you are under 18 years of age, or averse to the aforementioned themes, I strongly advise you not to proceed.
This is a humble collection of my personal favorite fanfics, a tribute to my favorite authors. I aim for it to serve as an aid to readers who seek quality Saiyuki fan fiction. I'm sorry, but I do not accept contributions to this section.
I have asked for permission from the writers before archiving their stories, and if you're planning to add any of these stories to your own archive, I strongly encourage you to do the same.
It occurred to me to password-protect this page, but I'm just too big a fan of free speech and displays of literary skill. Even if you're scared your kids are going to encounter smut on this site, you can at least be sure it's the finest smut your sweet ass can find online. |
++ Genjo Sanzo and the Chamber of Pot by sf
[Archiver's note: sf does it again! Saiyuki humor at its finest. Harry Potter fans will surely recognize the references.]
++ The Sanzou Who Walked By Himself by MJJ
Sanzo's relationship with the other three heroes, described in the form of an effervescent folk tale.
[Archiver's note: Short, but funny as hell. XD Familiarity with the characters is a definite advantage.]
++ Grey Days by MJJ
A brief but vivid glimpse into the mind of a man who stumbled into redemption at the time of his greatest transformation.
[Archiver's note: Solid, hard-hitting stream-of-consciousness work. A good companion fic to "Gojou" (see below)]
++ Gojou by MJJ
An introduction to the character of Sha Gojyo.
[Archiver's note: I don't know how she manages to write amazing second-person POV fics with what seems to be such ease. Not many can pull it off, and pull it off this well.]
++ Yomogi (Wormwood) by Mebae, translated by MJJ
Hakkai is the only one who remembers his past life in Heaven, a curse that was only broken after 500 years. Mebae's original shousetsu in Nihongo can be found here.
[Archiver's note: This story took my breath away - not just because I'm a Hakkai fan, but because the words MJJ selected are so natural and so lyrical that the spell they weave is unbreakable. Mebae-san's shousetsu was brilliantly inspired. If you can read Japanese, I encourage you to read the other stories in her site.]
++ Koumyou Sanzou's Personal Organizer by incandescens
Because even a high-ranking monk may need to keep a to-do list. Not remotely serious.
[Archiver's note: So far the funniest Saiyuki fic I've ever encountered. Background knowledge of the manga series is required and worth it! XD]
++ Birth by Solanaceae
When a child is born of the earth, he is neither human, youkai nor god.
[Archiver's note: It's not easy to write about non-physical experiences, but this writer simply knows how to find the right words. This fic, though brief, provides interesting fare for readers who look forward to having their imagination challenged.]
++ When Water Comes Together With Other Waterby Sherry Marie
Sanzou reflects on rain, relationships, and expectations. Set at the begining of the anime episode 15. Spoilers up through episode 16.
[Archiver's note: I came across this writer on ff.net and I was wondering why I never found her before. Self-promotion ought to be a basic survival skill ^_- Meanwhile, I think few other fanfic writers could match the fluid lyrical flow of this author's words.]
++ Until It Breaks by Sherry Marie
An unexpected encounter leaves Gojyo upset and distant, and Hakkai tries to help. Two parts so far.
++ Blood and Water by Sherry Marie
Gojyo reflects on his past and where he is going, and Hakkai takes his turn in part 2.
++ Through the Looking Glass by Mitsima
A most unusual switching occurs between a heavenly general and his human incarnation. For what purpose? Ongoing, with six chapters finished so far.
[Archiver's note: The premise is very bold, and the events highly promising. I'm afraid I can't be any more specific with my praise, or I'll have to start spoiling the story for everyone else. XD I hope it will suffice to say that the latest part has left me breathless. I can't wait to see what will happen next!]
++ Respice Finem by sf
A rainy night and too much sake sends Hakkai into a depression, with disastrous consequences. Finished in six parts.
[Archiver's note: A somewhat-gen fic that broke my heart. Though perhaps it would be better to say it cut my heart up into six even pieces, and deposited one piece into each chapter. If you're a Hakkai fan like myself, prepare to be majorly affected.]
++ Crossings by Kanzeon
Pre-Goku Sanzo-centric fic. While on his quest for his Master's Sutra, 17-year old Genjo Sanzo runs into a spot of trouble. Rated for violence and unpleasant situations. Finished in five parts.
[Archiver's note: I'm rather fond of "gen" or non-romantic fics. I recently also found out that such fics are classified as "gen." :P I understand this is unusual, but I haven't found the opportunity to be sorry about it. Really good writing stands out in such a category. This fic illustrates just that sort of talent. The suspense is very well-maintained, and the central idea is unique.]
++ The Honeymoon by Hth
Set a few years after the end of the Journey to the West. Goku and Sanzo take their relationship up one more level.
[Archiver's note: This is probably the first Saiyuki fic I ever read. It was recommended to me by Arcina a few months back, even before I was a Saiyuki fan. I liked it even then and now that I'm a Saiyuki fan, I recommend it to every other Saiyuki fan I meet ^___^ Sweet yet intense, and skillfully descriptive.]
Bhex's fics
For lack of anything else to call it: the optional stuff. |
++ Worth ** NEW **
More Gojyo and Hakkai-centric gen.
++ Part Of You ** NEW **
It's when I miss her the most that I feel she's been with me all this time. For lack of a better summary. Gojyo/Hakkai gen.
++ The Last Child
A short look into the childhood of Genjo Sanzo.
++ Dream's Ending
Gojyo has strange dreams sometimes. Waking up from them is even stranger. Especially now that Hakkai is around to know _how_ strange.
++ Vigil
Takes great liberties with what happened in episode 45 of the TV series. Ongoing, but targeted to be finished in three parts.
++ While Waiting
Gojyo introspective. It's raining and there's no Hakkai in sight.
++ Limiter
Gojyo wonders if removing one of Hakkai's limiters would make him less...inhibited. (Warning: adult content)
++ Room
How do you know when you finally have room for someone else in your heart?
