Bhex's Top 10 Favorite L'arc-en-Ciel Songs

(aka the songs Hyde's voice sounds somewhat better in)

Please note that at the moment this was done, I have not heard the recently-released _Real_ CD, and have not heard the songs there. This list may be updated soon after that.

  1. Kaze no Yukue = Thanks to Daryl-chan, I was able to appreciate this song's full worth. No tabs OR chords of this on the Net, but I'm pretty determined to get it down on paper, with Daryl-chan's help. ^_^
  2. Forbidden Lover = The song that started it all! As a beginner in J-rock, I'd sent a text message to a veteran J-rocker asking what L'arc song she would recommend, and she screamed "Forbidden Lover"! I liked the song instantly and found out later that few other L'arc fans have it in the top 5 of their own lists -- I wonder why.

= The reveille-ish drums are the backbone of the song, but they somewhat push the lyrics beside the point. Where's the war here? Anyway, despite that teeny technicality, I like the angst ringing throughout the whole thing.

  3. Natsu no Yuutsu/Vivid Colors = Danceable and memorable as all out, they positively define Laruku as a pop group.
  4. Ibara no Namida = A friend of mine says this song plants a Medieval English setting in her head. Now I imagine myself walking down a busy town square, past jugglers and hagglers and unwashed kids running back and forth with their pet pigs, with this as the BGM. Bet Laruku never thought about THAT while making this song!! HAH!
  5. Kasou/Heaven's Drive= My favorite part in "Kasou" is the bridge (you know, "Koyoi wa mou yume utsutsu, yagate tojita hitomi"). Pretty much like I love the bridge in Luna Sea's "Ra-se-n" and their coda in "Ray."

= Meanwhile, the best part in "Heaven's Drive" is the word "notte" in the refrain. ^_^

  6. Pieces = Makes me cry, every single time!!
  7. Cradle = Coerced me into coining the term "Mama Hyde."
  8. Shinjitsu to Gensou to = Makes drummer Yukihiro's hip-hop tendencies shine. ^_^
  9. Sell My Soul = Jazzy. Like something you'd sing outside a Parisian cafe (for one reason or another...)
  10. Perfect Blue = An LSD-laden song with a Hawaiian flavor that fits my mood most of the time. "Boku ni dekiru koto ga ieba, nakayubi wo tateru dake" ;P
